A Sri Lankan organization promoting and conducting research, training, lobbying, advocacy and monitoring in women's human rights issues. The Center is a member of the Sri Lanka Women's NGO Forum and houses information about the forum on this site.
Companions on a Journey, Wattala
Companions on a Journey was founded by a group of men who identify themselves as gay who strive to provide social, political and emotional support for people with an alternative sexual identity and expressions. The organization conducts HIV /AIDS prevention activities and provide care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS, lobbies for the repeal of
laws which criminalise consensual same sex activity between two consenting adults, and works closely with the media to create a positive image of the LGBT community in the country. They have a drop-in centre, a library, peer counseling, HIV test counseling, and organize film screenings as support services.
INFORM
INFORM is a human rights organization. Since the tsunami,
they have worked with women's networks on women-specific
issues. INFORM is also working to ensure that women are able to
participate fully in decisions regarding resettlement and
reconstruction, and that land for resettlement is allocated in
a non-discriminatory fashion.
The Women and Media CollectiveThe Women and Media
Collective is a women's organisation which aims to bring about
change based on feminist principles for a society free from
violence and militarization, which would pave the way for a
balanced representation of women in decision-making and
governance, and advocate for non-discriminatory laws and
policies. The mandate of the Women and Media Collective is to
lobby for the recognition of women’s rights and concerns in
legal and policy reform, include gender concerns in the peace
process, increase representation of women in politics, create a
space for positive representation of women’s concerns in the
media and adopt a rights based and gender sensitive approach to
tsunami recovery and rebuilding
