Organisations and Networks working on Sexuality in South and Southeast Asia - China

Chi Heng Foundation, Hongkong
This organization works on the education and care for over 3,000 children whose parents have died of or are dying of AIDS, prevention of AIDS among vulnerable groups including MSM (men who have sex with other men) and sex workers, and promotion of equal rights. Chi Heng's MSM project operates in 10 cities in China, forming a national platform for AIDS prevention for MSM. It strives to create a harmonious, equal, and healthy society by funding and operating projects in education and care for children and adults impacted by AIDS. Over the last year, Chi Heng has been funding the education of children who have been orphaned by AIDS in central China and has been able to provide them with psychological Care, material assistance and vocational training.

Friend Exchange
Friend Exchange is a bimonthly AIDS awareness magazine for gay men in China, a country in which such information is scarce. This magazine is the only publication in China written for the gay community and serves as a 'primer for gay men on how to avoid AIDS.' There is no formal website for this magazine, but a web search will provide more information.

Institute for Tongzhi Studies, New York
The Institute for Tongzhi Studies (ITS) is an academic research and exchange program based in the City University of New York led by Chinese speaking educators and researchers. As a joint project run by the Center for Women and Society and the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies, the Institute for Tongzhi Studies aspires to encourage discussions related to issues of gender, sexuality, and sexual health. ITS seeks to scrutinize layers of discriminating social attitudes, cultural assumptions, and public policies against sexual minorities in Chinese communities around the world. Through education, research, and exchange, ITS coordinates with institutions with shared values in order to build a body of scholarly works to further the study of gender and sexuality in Chinese societies.

Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline Association (TTHA), Taiwan
The Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline Association provides people with peer counseling, support networks, and a community resource center. TTHA trains peer counselors to help them acquire the professional skills to use their personal life history as a reference point to assist others and enhance their understanding of queer history and culture. TTHA provides a friendly space where marginalized members of the community can connect with each other and find useful information to help them make positive changes in their own life. Finally, as a community resource center, TTHA provides information about queer group meeting times, upcoming events, queer related news, and social activities. TTHA's tasks focus on counseling, cultural events, and the protection of LGBT rights.

It belongs to Institute for Research in Sexuality and Gender, Renmin University of China. It servies as a resource to researchers, activists, and students in the field of sexuality and gender, so as to promote the level of discourse on issues of sexuality.
