E-Discussion Summaries

E-Discussion 1: Sexual Pleasure, Sexuality, and Rights

The first discussion forum from October 17 – December 27, 2005. A summary is provided in the links below. Major themes discussed and debated included issues sexual pleasure and language and terms, the feminist debate, boundaries and limits, regulation and censorship, rights, how to incorporate into programming, power dynamics, disability, and how sexual pleasure relates to wellbeing, to name a few!

E-Discussion 2: Sexuality and Censorship

The second discussion forum from January 16 – March 16, 2006. Major themes that were discussed during this e-Forum were the purpose of censorship, talking about various kinds of censors including self-censorship, tracing the relationship between censorship and freedom and that between censorship and representation.

E-Discussion 3: Sexuality, Young People and Rights

The third discussion forum ran from April 3 – June 6, 2006. Major themes included discussing and debating what the main issues around sexuality are for young people, who actually these so-called young people are, the various issues of participation and access to information on issues of sexuality for young people; sexuality education and the sexual rights of young people.

E-Discussion 4: Sexual Concerns – Approaches and Management

The fourth discussion forum ran from June 12 – August 21, 2006. Major themes included talking about various myths and misconceptions related to sexuality in different country contexts, manifestation of a sexual concern into a ‘sexual problem’, common approaches and service providers to take care of a sexual concern/problem, and whether sexual concerns can be claimed as a set of rights or entitlements.

E-Discussion 5: Diverse Genders and Sexualities

This forum ran from August 23 - November 14, 2006. Major themes included the politics behind identities, negotiating spaces for the expression of sexuality, the formation of sexual hierarchies and how that might marginalize some people and discussing various campaigns and movements on sexualities within the region.

E-Discussion 6: Sexuality and Violence

The sixth discussion on ‘Sexuality and Violence’ ran from November 15, 2006 to January 15, 2007. A summary is provided in the links below. Major themes included tracing the connections between sexuality and violence, exploring the various ways in which sexuality and violence affect different communities in diverse ways, the use of media and representation and also how does the state play a role in dealing with certain kinds of sexual violence while excluding and sometimes even perpetrating and perpetuating others. There were particular references made to that of World AIDS Day, World Disability Day and Human Rights Day which coincided with this discussion.
