Diverse Genders and Sexualities
Subtopic 4: Campaigns and Movements around the Region – An Introduction

There has been a very rich discussion so far on what diversity of genders and sexualities implies, the range of diversity in terms of behaviours, identities and practices and how it differs according to cultural and regional contexts. We have also briefly discussed how the spaces to negotiate and give expression to one's sexuality remain few especially for those who fall under the bracket of 'marginalised' sexualities or rather anything that is non-hetero-normative or non-procreative. Further, we have briefly discussed how in the hierarchies of sexualities and genders there are groups and individuals who get left out or there is a constant negotiation and re-negotiation of spaces. Some garner the voice to collectivise and demand their rights whereas there are others who are left out in the process.

We have now reached the fourth and the last subtopic of this E-forum. Let us look at what are the various campaigns and movements on sexual rights that are happening in the South and Southeast Asia region. Are there any campaigns and movements focusing on sexuality and diverse gender expressions whether at the local or the national levels? We could look at current campaigns or also at those that started a long time ago and made a mark. What is the focus of these campaigns and movements? Do they come from an anti- violence framework, a sexual health framework or the framework of sexual rights? Are there any alliances between different campaigns in the region? Do we see the need for further collaborations in the region?

Let's focus on these questions and begin our discussions!
