Sexuality, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

The training was aimed at understanding aspects
related to sexuality, sexual and reproductive health and rights. It
provided basic information on topics like sexual and reproductive
anatomy and physiology and HIV/AIDS. The focus of the training was to
clarify some of the issues, and to encourage the participants to
incorporate concepts of sexuality and rights in their day-to-day work.
For example: research, making Information, Education and Communication (IEC)
materials, conducting sexuality education in schools, policy
interventions, etc.

Understanding Sexuality and Gender
Sexual and Reproductive Health
Sexual and Reproductive Rights
Sexuality and Power/Violence
Sexuality and Marginalisation
Sexuality and Pleasure
Participants – There were a total of 30 participants. These
included individuals who have been working on issues of gender,
reproductive health, HIV, development, education, etc. Some of them had
not engaged with sexuality issues previously in their work. They came
from different countries within the region: Cambodia, China, India,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
They were selected on the basis of an application process.
Fees – The cost of travel and accommodation for all participants
was covered.
Faculty – The resource persons were from within TARSHI and
outside
Training methods and tools included interactive
exercises, presentations, readings, films, discussions, debates,
group work and case studies. The medium of instruction was English,
some films were in other languages - with English subtitles.
